Chloé Atelier des Fleurs Cedrus Review: The Light, Airy Wood Scent

If there’s one thing you need to know about me, it’s that I love anything fragrance that makes me feel instantly clean, put-together, and polished without trying too hard. Especially during a heatwave or when I have a busy day out and about.

Give me something effortless that I can throw on without having to think about whether the weather or the occasion is “right,” and I am a happy woman.

Lately, I have been completely obsessed with the Chloé Atelier des Fleurs line. It’s a slightly more premium, exclusive collection than their standard high-street bottles, but the formulations are stunning. I’ve tried quite a few now and I have my eye on Herba Mimosa next but I might save that until next year.

One specific scent I’ve been living with is Cedrus. I feel like a cedar note in years gone by was associated with a heavy, dusty, masculine wood scent. But it feels like modern cedar fragrances have stepped away from that, and this is completely different.

The Vibe & The Notes

To me, Chloé Cedrus is an incredibly light, spicy, and airy fragrance. It has this gorgeous, diffusive quality to it that feels completely weightless.

When you first spritz it, it opens with clean green notes and a beautifully crisp, aromatic hit of cardamom. As it settles, that cardamom plays with a very soft, smooth cedarwood base. It isn’t sharp or aggressive; it’s a calm, botanical woodiness that feels incredibly chic and understated. It’s the ultimate daytime, casual perfume for the office or casual weekend lunch dates when you just want to smell good without shouting for attention.

The Packaging Design

I also have to talk about the physical bottle for a second, because the presentation of the Atelier des Fleurs line is so incredibly elegant.

The bottles aren’t flashy or loud, but the fluted, spun-glass texture paired with the matte cap and gold rim gives the whole piece a beautiful sense of understated and even slightly vintage elegance.

What I find so interesting is the contrast between the outside and the inside. While the bottle itself looks like an elegant, timeless piece of antique glassware, the actual juice inside doesn’t smell old-fashioned or vintage at all. It is modern, quiet, and refined. It’s built for someone who values quality but doesn’t need to be loud or dramatic to make an impression.

The Longevity Reality Check

Because of its sheer lightness, I think a lot of people write Cedrus off as being weak or fleeting. But that is a complete misunderstanding of how this molecular-style perfume works.

It isn’t a powerhouse that is going to loudly announce itself or walk into a room before you do. It turns into an intimate skin scent within a few hours. But it still lingers subtly.

If I spray it directly onto my clothes, I can detect it the next day. You might not catch a heavy trail of it in the air, but you will get those clean, comforting, woody wafts from your clothes as you move.

Cedrus vs Cedrus Intense: Do You Need Both?

Chloe Cedrus and Chloe Cedrus Intense

Chloé recently launched a newer, deeper version: Cedrus Intense. Whenever a brand drops an “intense” flanker of a popular perfume, I immediately think: Is it just a marketing ploy to get me to buy the same bottle twice?

After testing them side-by-side, I can safely say that while they definitely share a similar DNA, they are different enough that owning both is not redundant at all.

The Intense version takes that familiar, clean, woody-cardamom foundation but turns the contrast right up. The major difference behind the scenes comes down to the base notes: Cedrus Intense introduces a rich, warm amber note and a touch of earthiness that aren’t present in the original formulation at all.

This added amber gives the fragrance a slightly sweet, resinous, and incredibly cosy depth that works beautifully with a sophisticated leather note. It also has a stronger projection, making it the perfect night-time or cold-weather equivalent to the original.

Think of them as the ultimate fragrance wardrobe swap. The original Cedrus is your effortless daytime denim; Cedrus Intense is your structured evening blazer.

When to Wear What: The Scenario Guide

Here’s a breakdown of when I would wear Chloé Cedrus vs Chloé Cedrus Intense:

  • Reach for Chloé Cedrus for:
    • The Office: Its airy, diffusive nature gives a clean, polished impression that won’t overwhelm a meeting room.
    • Casual Weekend Lunch Dates: Perfect for throwing on with a simple white tee and jeans when you want to look effortlessly put-together.
    • Post-Workout or Travel: It is incredibly refreshing and light, making it a great pick-me-up for a flight or after the gym.
  • Reach for Chloé Cedrus Intense for:
    • Autumn & Winter Evenings Out: The warm amber and leather notes cut through a freezing evening breeze beautifully, making it feel much more intentional and dressy.
    • Cosy Pub Trips: The rich depth will complement those cosy evenings spent by a pub fireplace.
    • When You Need Real Staying Power: If you are heading out for a long day where you won’t have time to re-spritz, the stronger projection of the Intense will comfortably carry you through from day to night.

If you love fresh, uplifting, slightly woody scents that lean more clean than sugary sweet, I highly recommend Chloé Cedrus.

Chloé Cedrus retails for £115 for 50ml – you can buy Cedrus from CultBeauty here.
