MAC Groundwork Paint Pot Review

You’ve probably heard of MAC’s Groundwork Paint Pot by now, or at least the Paint Pots MAC offer in general. If not – where have you been? The Paint Pots are an eye make up product, boasting a highly pigmented formula that performs as a cream eyeshadow or eye primer. The formula is waterproof and long lasting – delivering up to 15 hours wear.

The Paint Pots come in a range of different colours. Groundwork is a slightly warm leaning taupe brown colour which works nicely as a wash of colour on your lids. It ‘s quite versatile and works well as part of a simple “no make up make up look”, but similarly you can pair it with other colours for a more dramatic look. If you’ve read here for some time, you will know I’m not an eyeshadow expert. I use this colour all over my lid and under the eyes. I sometimes use Bare Study in the corners of my eyes to give the illusion I’ve had 8 hours sleep. Groundwork has a matte consistency and gives good colour pay off compared to some of the more glittery shades.

I usually apply Groundwork using one of my Real Techniques eyeshadow brushes. Having said that, the formula at first can be a bit dry and benefit from being warmed up with fingers. I do usually blend it out using my fingers once applied. Although, have seen some people say that these dry out quite quickly, but storing them upside down prolongs shelf life.

I have normal – combination skin but my eyelids are very oily. While I’ve not worn this for 15 hours straight, I have not experienced any creasing, patches or fading.

Here’s a swatch of MAC’s Groundwork Paint Pot! These are sold for £22 which is pricy but they’re often on sale. I really like them for their long lasting, no fuss nature. Have you tried any of MAC’s eye products?
