Mutha.Hood Dumpling Quilted Crossbody Bag Review

I’ve had my Dumpling Quilted Crossbody Bag in Electric Blue by Mutha.Hood for over a year now. It’s so handy for trips out, and I featured it in my best bags to wear for exploring London post.

About Mutha.Hood as a brand

Mutha.Hood is a sustainable, community led fashion brand and home to The Strong Girls Club. Its core focus is to empower women through strong, meaningful messages. You can read more about their story and how the brand came into being here. The brand’s messaging really resonates with me and I love a lot of the products they stock. You can tell they really think about providing clothes and accessories with comfort and functionality in mind.

There are a few products in the “Dumpling” line. Each share the trademark quilted exterior. They have two versions of a crossbody bag in a regular size and a mini, tote bags, backpacks and purses. I picked up a Dumpling Quilted Crossbody Bag in the regular size and this is what I think of it.

About the Dumpling Quilted Crossbody Bag

The Dumpling Crossbody bag comes in a range of fun colours and patterns. The colours are produced in small batches and refreshed seasonally apart from the black which seems to be a permanent colour option.

The exterior of the Dumpling bag is made from polyamide and the strap and interior lining is made of polyester. These materials make the bag lightweight and water resistant so it’ll keep your possessions dry in sudden downpours.

The bag is 35cm wide, 26cm long and has a depth of 6cm. Also, the material is stretchy and can accommodate a lot more than the size suggests. The bag has an adjustable strap that can be fully extended to 105cm, and it is embossed with “Strong Girls Club.”

The bag has a zip fastening across the top and inside there is one zipped pocket where I store my keys.

I think what sets these bags apart from other crossbody bags on the market is the quilted exterior. It makes the bag really soft and comfortable to wear, and it also gives the bag a bit of personality.

My experience of wearing the Dumpling Bag and how it has held up over time

I’ve had my Dumpling Bag for just over a year now, and I use it a couple of times a week. It basically looks the same as the day I got it. There’s no colour fading, the strap hasn’t frayed, the zip still works smoothly and the bag quilting still feels soft and cushioned.

I usually carry my phone, earphones, a reusable bag, umbrella, toiletries case, 24oz water bottle, purse and Kindle in the bag. It accommodates these comfortably without becoming misshapen, and the strap does not dig into my shoulder when I use it.

Mutha.Hood’s Dumpling Quilted Crossbody Bag – Who’s it for?

I think this is a nice bag for everyday wear, and also for travel because it’s lightweight and you can fold it down to keep it in a suitcase. It’s a good size and can fit a lot in it, but it’s not too large that it’s overwhelming or cumbersome. When it’s empty and I put it on, I barely notice as it’s that light.

If you’re looking for a bag that can fit your water bottle, book, cosmetic bag, purse, phone and charger in then you can’t go wrong with a Dumpling. Also the colours are super cute.

I think this bag firmly fits into the versatile everyday bag category. However, if you’re looking for something dressier, you might want to consider something like a Pom Pom London bag as I think the leather and gold hardware give it an elevated look.

Also if you are looking for something structured or with lots of compartments for organising your belongings, the Mutha.Hood Quilted Crossbody Dumpling Bag might not be for you as this has one main compartment, one zipped compartment and is soft and unstructured.

At £50 I think this is reasonable for a durable and versatile everyday bag. The array of fun colours means you can pick something that reflects your personality and style.

You can pick up your Dumpling here, and if you sign up to their mailing list you get 10% off your first order.

What bag do you use for every day?
