I read quite a lot these days. I’m not really sure how I manage to cram it in. I work 9 hour days, I gym about five times a week and see friends a few times a week too. I guess I’m not in the position where I have kids or family members I need to take care of though.
To me, there’s nothing better than setting aside a few hours on a Sunday afternoon to read. Or reading in bed on a Wednesday evening. I guess I get through about two books a month, depending on how lengthy they are. This is what’s on my reading list this month:
The Cactus follows the story of Susan Green, a forty-five year old lady who lives in London and is fulfilled with her life as it is. Following the loss of her mum and the prospect of becoming a mum herself, her life becomes predictably messier. I believe “The Cactus” is in reference to Susan’s character. This got great reviews and Susan was compared to Don Tillman from The Rosie Project. I enjoyed all the characters in the Rosie Project, and I am hoping I will like Susan just as much!
Convenience Store Woman follows the life of Keiko, a convenience store worker. She is a 36 year old lady who doesn’t “fit in” with society’s norms. She isn’t that bothered though, her life is entwined with the convenience store. This book is quite short and I am intrigued with this one – it looks like an easy read. It seems to have a bit of a following so hopefully I will enjoy it too!
I finished this the other day. Read my review of Convenience Store Woman here.
I loved loved loved Mark Haddon’s The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time and A Spot of Bother. I am hoping I will enjoy The Red House too. Mark Haddon has a wonderful way or portraying characters in an insightful way and he paces the story well. From the back cover, it looks to be about two siblings who are forced to reconnect after spending much of their lives avoiding each other. I’m hoping this will provide a lot of insight into human relationships. Read my review of Mark Haddon’s The Red House here.
