I think Elizabeth Arden’s Eight Hour Cream has gained cult status in the beauty world, as a sort of wonder product. It’s a “one and done” sort of item; something you stick in your bag to tackle all sorts of skin problems. Need to shape your brows on the go? Slick a bit of this on them. Experiencing skin irritation from an insect bite? Soothe it with this. It can also be used on dry skin, scrapes, sunburn, windburn, and as I recently discovered – chapped lips.
Despite its name, this isn’t a cream in any sense of the word. It’s a balm with a petroleum jelly base. It’s similar to Vaseline in texture, but it has added Vitamin E, Caster Oil and Lanolin for soothing and hydration. Therefore while Vaseline might create a protective barrier to lock in moisture that’s already there, Elizabeth Arden’s Eight Hour Cream adds in more moisture.
Due to its petroleum jelly base, it has a bit of a greasy texture initially. This is why I only use it sparingly on problem areas, and usually before bed so it can work its magic. It also has a lightly herbal scent which takes some getting used to, but there is an unscented version available.
Tis the season for chapped lips. The cold air, dramatic matte lipsticks worn for Christmas parties and replacing my usual water and fruit intake with mulled wine and yule log means my lips probably aren’t as hydrated as they should be. I picked up the Elizabeth Arden Eight Hour Cream to save them and it really works. I usually slather this stuff on before bed and wake up with perfectly soft lips. No one would ever be able to tell that I’ve been neglecting them slightly this holiday season.
At £31 for 50ml this isn’t the cheapest of products out there. I think I got it when Cult Beauty had their 20% off Black Friday sale. Having said that, you only need the tiniest bit so I think the tube will last a long time. It can also be used to treat a multitude of skin problems, so it’s handy to keep on the go instead of carrying around multiple different products to target different skin issues.
All in all, I think this has earnt its cult status and I can see why people like it. It’s a reliable product you know will effectively treat a lot of skin issues and you only need to use a tiny amount.
