Why I regret buying Puma Palermos (in the green and pink colourway)

Colourful suede trainers are all the trend right now. I love the Adidas Gazelles and Spezials, and the colours look so cool. Colourful trainers can really add a fun twist to an otherwise neutral outfit, and some people are so great at incorporating them into their wardrobe.

I have a pair of Red Gazelle Indoor trainers and I love them. Usually I wear a lot of black and find they go with most of my outfits, but add something different to my outfit. I feel very cool wearing them and I really like how they look. The Puma Palermos are a more affordable alternative to the Gazelles and Spezials, still offering the gum sole and colourful suede upper. They usually retail for around £75 rather than £90.

I first bought a pair of Puma Palermos in Black and White and I really like them. They’re my go-to trainer for when my red Gazelles feel too bright. Trainers and sandals are basically the only shoes I live in, so I don’t feel too bad having a couple of pairs on rotation.

The Green and Pink Puma Palermos caught my eye a few times but my size was always sold out! I really liked the colour combination though and thought they’d be the perfect pair for summer. When I saw them on sale and my size suddenly came available I quickly snapped them up. I couldn’t wait to wear them and thought since I got so much wear out of my Black and White pair these would never leave my feet.

My thoughts on the Puma Palermos

When the Palermos arrived I was so excited, I couldn’t wait to wear them. But opening the box I felt differently. I still loved them but I don’t know. You know when you see a pair of shoes or an item of clothing you love but know you wouldn’t wear? That’s how I felt. I’m not sure if it’s because they’re so bright and I’m not used to it (even my Red Gazelles pair are quite muted) or if they don’t fit my style. They just don’t feel like me yet.

I guess the lesson I have learnt in all of this is that even when I love something, I have to make sure I wear it or that it fits in with my style, otherwise it feels wasteful. And also that even if I love a colour it doesn’t mean it will work for me. I don’t buy clothes or shoes just for them to sit in my wardrobe.

Maybe it’s just a case of slowly getting used to them. Or maybe I should have gone for a more muted colour, I’m not sure. For now I’m just trying to wear them with different outfits to see if I change my mind. I will try to persevere for now, and if I can’t make them work I’ll sell them on to someone who loves them.

Have you ever bought something that you love only to find that there’s something about it that doesn’t quite work for you?
