Charlotte Tilbury Hot Lips Secret Salma Lipstick Review

I’ve had Charlotte Tilbury’s Secret Salma Lipstick in my stash for a while now so it is well overdue a review. I love Charlotte Tilbury lipsticks. Pillow Talk has a permanent place in my handbag and I mentioned it in my best nude lipsticks for pale skin recommendations post.

Secret Salma is part of Charlotte Tilbury’s Hot Lips collection. The Hot Lips collection was created in collaboration with 12 women. The lipsticks in the collection are infused with orchid extracts to hydrate and offer a soft matte finish. The lipstick has a unique formula designed to make your pout look plumper. The features of the Hot Lips range include:

Charlotte Tilbury Hot Lips Secret Salma – My Thoughts

Secret Salma is a medium plum leaning slightly cool toned. It’s encased in the typical Charlotte Tilbury gold bullet with a twist mechanism to apply the lipstick. I find the gold packaging does scratch easily. It’s been battered in my bag but fortunately the lipstick itself has been well protected. The appearance of the packaging doesn’t really bother me, it’s what’s inside that counts. However you may want to bear it in mind if you like your lipsticks well presented.

Charlotte Tilbury’s Secret Salma lipstick is well pigmented and creamy on the lips. It’s not a chalky matte at all. It’s comfortable to wear and leaves my lips feeling reasonably hydrated. Of course, being so comfortable to wear has its downsides. In terms of longevity it doesn’t have the staying power of a traditional matte. You know the ones you’d have to scrub at your lips at the end of the night to remove? That’s not Secret Salma. Secret Salma lasts for a good four hours before colour fades and it does transfer onto glasses or other drink receptacles.

I think Charlotte Tilbury’s Secret Salma would work well on all skin tones. I have fair skin and grey eyes and I think it complements my colouring. I also think these sorts of plum colours look gorgeous on people with brown eyes and darker skin tones. It’s slightly cool toned but not too much to look jarring against those with warm undertones. I think it’s a colour that can be worn either during the daytime or in the evenings for dinner or drinks out. It’s bold enough to be noticeable, but not too deep that it’s unwearable for the office.

At £25 for 3.5g of product, Charlotte Tilbury’s lipsticks are definitely on the pricey side. I don’t think Secret Salma is that much of a unique colour to justify that price. However, combined with the excellent formula I’d recommend it to people who want to splash out on a lipstick for a special occasion.
