Jo Malone Pomegranate Noir Cologne Review

Introducing the scent I wore on Christmas Day – Jo Malone’s Pomegranate Noir Cologne. This is a juicy pomegranate scent, with some spice from clove and pink pepper. I don’t think there’s many aromas more Christmassy than red berries and cloves.

Jo Malone Pomegranate Noir notes and scent profile

This fragrance has a lot of notes, from watermelon to jasmine to guaiac wood and patchouli. While the patchouli does add a slight earthiness, and there are some perceptible woody notes, Pomegranate Noir to my nose is a juicy, spicy red berry scent. I don’t get any floral notes in this at all. I’ve heard some say they get a medicinal note from this, which I think might be from the clove, however I don’t get that association.

I feel like Pomegranate Noir is one of Jo Malone’s more well known offerings. Maybe because it has been around for a while – having been released in 20025 – and maybe because it is rather distinctive. I’ve not really smelt much like this, it makes me think of mulled wine drunk in a cosy pub on a cold day. While it isn’t especially fresh, it isn’t cloying or overwhelming, and it performs well. I usually get about 8 hours wear, with a moderate projection. Which is saying a lot for a Jo Malone fragrance.

Personally, this is something I’d only wear during a cold autumn or winter evening. The scent profile is quite dark and complex, and to me this would feel out of place worn in an office setting. But I’m sure someone bolder than me would be able to rock it. Similarly, I don’t think I’d wear this on a sticky summer’s day as the spicy notes would become overwhelming.

Jo Malone’s Colognes are priced at £56 for 30ml. While that might be a bit steep for some considering their performance, I think that’s a fair price for Pomegranate Noir.

Jo Malone’s Pomegranate Noir – Final thoughts

Overall I think this is a great scent. It’s bold and unique and performs well on the skin. If you’re looking for a fruity perfume which embodies the smells of Christmas, you can’t go wrong with Pomegranate Noir. It’s also available in a small 9ml bottle for £18 if you want to try it but are hesitant at paying over £50 for a 30ml bottle. You can buy the 9ml bottle at Look Fantastic here.

Have you tried Jo Malone’s Pomegranate Noir, or do you have a special scent that reminds you of the holidays?
