I have a confession, I have a certain degree of envy towards many beauty bloggers and people who are knowledgeable about beauty and seem to have everything together. You know, the people who know exactly which active ingredients to include in their skincare regime, and can contour like a pro with their eyes closed.
In contrast, on this blog and in my life in general, I talk about products and things that I like but as your mate would do, not as someone with earth shattering knowledge in the field. To be perfectly honest, if you asked me which eyeshadow in a palette I should use in the crease, I’d probably break out into a cold sweat.
These are my five beauty confessions. Things I do I know I shouldn’t, things I know I should do but don’t, and things I have absolutely no knowledge of whatsoever.
1 – I sometimes use face wipes
I hold a great deal of respect for people who, however they are feeling, follow the same skincare routine every day. Those who use various cleansers to remove their make up in the evenings, followed by a toner, serum, moisturiser etc.
If I’m exhausted and want to go to bed asap, I use a face wipe to remove my make up. I also use them if I’m staying over someone else’s house overnight and don’t want to lug cleansers and flannels with me.
I do use biodegradable wipes though, so it’s not terrible for the environment. They just makes my skin feel icky in the morning.
2 – Eyeshadow is the bane of my existence
Not literally, although quite possibly. I like a sweep of one colour across my eyelids, and that’s the extent of my eyeshadow application skills. Anything more complicated than that brings me out in hives or makes me look like I’ve been punched in the eye.
I’ll never be able to grasp the concept of using three different coloured powders in such a small area.
3 – I neglect my body skin care regime
By “neglect” I actually mean I do not have one at all. I have a body brush but I rarely use it to exfoliate in the shower, and that’s about as far as my body skin care routine goes.
I have friends who are obsessed with The Body Shop’s Body Butters, and I know people love Lush’s Massage Bars. But I could not think of anything worse than getting out of the shower and then having to wait around for some oily products to sink into my skin. Have you ever used foot cream and then walked through the house thinking it had sunk in, only to find bits of carpet fluff stuck to the soles of your feet after? Exactly.
4 – I sometimes forget to wash my make up brushes
Gross I know. It’s just such a chore and they take ages to dry and then sometimes I use one thinking it has dried and it smears the make up on my face.
I should do it more often. I know it’s unhygienic and can cause skin problems. I read that not washing them often enough can cause spots so I used the excuse that my skin is usually clear to absolve my guilt for too long.
5 – NARS Orgasm is the most overrated blush of all time
NARS Orgasm seems to be a holy grail product for so many people, but I often wonder if it shot to fame because of its name?
Don’t get me wrong, it’s a nice enough colour. But it’s easy to dupe and I’ve seen so many similar colours for a lower price tag. I also find it so shimmery and some of the gold particles are quite chunky. There are so many better blushers out there, including within the NARS range.
Anyway, those are my beauty confessions! Do you have any beauty secrets to share?
