Barry M Lip Scrub in Watermelon Review

Barry M Lip Scrub Watermelon

I have been meaning to pick up a lip scrub for a while now. I’ve reviewed the Lush Lip Scrub in Bubblegum before on the blog but I have recently discovered that Barry M has released its own lip scrub range.

Barry M’s lip scrubs come in four flavours; Peppermint, Mango, Apple and Watermelon. They all sounded enticing but I opted for Watermelon simply because of the bright pink packaging.

Each lip scrub costs £4.99 for 25g of product, so they are slightly cheaper than their Lush counterparts. The scrubs are infused with Vitamin E and Olive Oil to reverse skin damage and Avocado and Jojoba Oils to hydrate the lips.

Each lip scrub comes housed in a little pot with a screw top lid. They’re very dainty and eye catching and look good sat on my bathroom shelf. However, I am more concerned with how it works rather than how it looks.

How I use the Barry M Lip Scrub

To use the Barry M Lip Scrub, I scoop a little bit of the sugar mixture out of the pot and apply it to untreated lips. There is a fruity watermelon scent that’s light but lingers after use. Not that I’m complaining, it’s a really moreish scent. I then start to exfoliate by scrubbing with my forefinger and also by rubbing my lips together. Then I wash off the remaining sugar particles and pat my lips dry.

Barry M Lip Scrub in Watermelon – My Thoughts

The sugar particles used in the Barry M Lip Scrub feel a bit chunkier compared to the Lush Lip Scrub. It makes the whole process a bit messy so I usually use the lip scrub over the bathroom sink in the morning before showering. I also find the oil doesn’t bind the sugar as effectively, so it does not stick to my lips as much. It’s usable, but I feel I need to use a little more product to get the same exfoliating result I get from the Lush scrubs.

It’s reasonably effective at exfoliating. After use most of the loose skin on my lips has been removed.

Although there seemed to be a lack of oil when I was exfoliating, after I had washed the sugar I could feel the Avocado and Jojoba Oils working to moisturise my lips. On days where my lips felt particularly dry, I found using this scrub refreshed them and gave my lips a hit of moisture that lasted throughout the day.

The sugar used in the Barry M Lip Scrubs is not as refined as the sugar in Lush’s Lip Scrubs. It means that the whole experience is messier and you need to use more product to get the same effect. Having said that, it’s £1.50 cheaper for the same amount of product, so on a cost-per-use basis they probably balance each other out. Both products produce similar results in how they make the lips feel afterwards.

I do like the Barry M Lip Scrub in Watermelon, it’s an affordable product that produces good – if slightly messy – results.
