Borough Market London

Ah Borough Market in London. One of my favourites for food and early Saturday morning stumbles. The setting for many dates (some good, some not so much) and one of the first places I take friends if they are visiting London. Located just by London Bridge station, Borough Market is a covered market that sells all the food you could ever wish for. It sort of looks quite old-worldy and a bit industrial too.

It is split into two halves by a road (that also has permanent shops on it). I’m not really sure what the difference is between the two halves. They both tend to be full of food stalls. The market is open Monday – Saturday from 10am – 5/6pm. I’ve never been any other day. I can assume on a Monday morning it might not be too busy but that during the week a lot of local workers probably grab their lunch from there. On a Saturday it is heaving though. Even more than these pictures suggest. You have been warned.

Despite the fact it is manically busy and there are queues and people everywhere, you never seem to wait too long to get food.

I swear most people are enticed in by the smells as well. All sorts of things are being grilled and for the more health conscious, you can get smoothies made from any fruit your heart desires.

How to get to Borough Market, London

Borough Market is south of the river in the London borough of Southwark. The nearest underground station is London Bridge which is on the Northern and Jubilee line. There are also busses such as the 21, 35 and 47 that stop on the corner of London Bridge.

Afterwards, if you head east you can go to the Shard and eventually get to Maltby Street market in the Bermondsey area. Heading west and you can visit the Tate Modern and after all that food have the energy to wander around and explore all the art.

Have you ever visited Borough Market in London before?
