Clinique Almost Lipstick – Black Honey Review

Clinique Almost Lipstick in Black Honey

Today I’ll be talking about Clinique’s Almost Lipstick in the shade Black Honey, and whether I think it’s really worth it.

At £25, this lip product is quite pricey. It’s sheer and buildable in shades that look different on everyone. They combine red, blue and yellow pigments that play up to the natural colour of your lips. It is more of a tinted lip balm product, and have a lightweight, balmy texture that is slightly hydrating.

Black Honey is advertised as a deep, blackened raisin colour which sounds intimidating. When I first saw the shade in its silver tube I immediately thought it wasn’t going to suit me. It looks like a very dark burgundy which is not my sort of shade at all. It’s actually quite a sheer plum colour on me that’s neither too warm toned or too cool toned. To me, it’s definitely more of a colder weather / winter colour.

Against my fair skin, the colour payoff is actually quite good. I can get full coverage after a few swipes. The finish is neither glossy nor completely matte. It’s a comfortable balm which doesn’t highlight any imperfections. The only downside of the lightweight balmy formula is that it does not last very long on the lips and I only get a few hours wear. It is very easy to reapply on the go. It comes in a slim case which allows for precise application, and it’s not so pigmented that people will notice if you overline your lips slightly.

I find Clinique’s Almost Lipstick in Black Honey neither overly moisturising or drying. It’s comfortable to wear during the colder months, but if you have chapped lips you would still want to apply a lip treatment underneath this.

Is Clinique’s Almost Lipstick in Black Honey worth the money?

At £25 RRP, this is not a cheap lip product. I think you will be disappointed if you’re looking for a lipstick that lasts all day. Black Honey lasts a few hours on the lips due to its balmy texture.

I think it is worth considering if you’re someone who usually shies away from deep lipstick colours but want to give them a try. Black Honey is an unintimidating gateway to deep plums and berries, and someone new to these shades might appreciate its sheer colour payoff and that it is universally flattering. I don’t think you can go far wrong with Black Honey if you want to experiment with deeper lipstick shades.

Do you wear deeper lipstick colours in the colder weather?
