As we head into summer, I tend to reach for nail colours that feel a bit lighter and easier to wear.
Nothing too bold or trend-heavy – just shades that feel fresh, flattering and work day-to-day without needing much thought.
These are the colours I find myself coming back to every year.
Soft milky pink

A soft milky pink is probably one of the easiest options.
It gives a clean, slightly polished look without feeling too done. It’s subtle, but still makes your nails look neat and put together.
This is one I tend to wear when I want something that works with everything.
Creamy peach

A creamy peach is one of those shades that feels particularly good in summer.
It has more warmth than a traditional nude, which helps it sit nicely against slightly tanned skin, but still feels soft and easy to wear.
I really like Essie’s Jam-balaya for this – it’s warm, slightly muted and gives that polished look without feeling too done.
Soft coral

Coral is one of those colours that immediately feels like summer.
It sits somewhere between pink and orange, which makes it surprisingly flattering and easy to wear. It adds warmth without feeling too bright or overpowering.
I tend to go for slightly softer versions rather than anything too neon. The Gel Bottle’s Fired Coral is a good example – it has that warmth, but still feels quite wearable day-to-day.
A muted pink with a hint of brightness

If you like pink but don’t want anything too sugary, a slightly muted pink works really well.
Something with a bit of brightness underneath keeps it feeling fresh rather than flat.
This is the kind of shade that feels feminine and polished, but still very easy to wear.
Easy pastel (one at a time)

Pastels can work really well in summer, as long as they’re kept quite soft.
I tend to stick to one at a time rather than switching between lots of colours. A pale blue or lavender can feel fresh without being too much. You can choose one with a cool or warm hue depending on your
This is one I’d usually reach for if I want something slightly different, but still quite easy to wear.
Soft mint

Mint is one of those shades that feels slightly more playful, but still quite easy to wear.
If you go for a softer version, it feels fresh rather than statement.
Essie’s Mint Candy Apple is a nice example and one that’s been consistently popular over the years. It’s a light mint green that works particularly well in warmer weather.
A neutral base with a coloured tip

If you like the idea of adding a bit of colour but don’t want anything too bold, a neutral base with a coloured tip is a really nice option.
It keeps the overall look quite clean and minimal, but still adds a small detail that feels a bit more considered.
I’ve been seeing this done with soft pink or milky bases, paired with a subtle coral or pastel tip. It’s a good way to bring in colour without it feeling like too much, especially if you usually prefer something more understated.
It also tends to grow out quite nicely, which makes it a slightly lower-maintenance option compared to a full block colour.
Sheer, glossy nails

Another look I find myself coming back to in summer is a very sheer, glossy nail.
It’s similar to a soft pink, but even lighter – more of a wash of colour that just makes your nails look healthy and well cared for.
It works particularly well if you don’t want to think about your nails too much, or prefer something that goes with everything. (Which is me most days).
A sheer pink or milky gloss gives that “your nails but better” effect, and it tends to wear quite nicely as it grows out.
Final thoughts
Summer nail colours don’t need to be complicated to look good.
I usually find the easiest options are the ones that feel fresh, slightly glossy and work with everything. A soft pink, a creamy peach or a muted coral can often look just as effective as something more trend-led.
These are the shades I tend to come back to each year when I paint my nails – simple, wearable and easy to maintain.
