I do love a chunky lip crayon and picked up a couple from Laura Mercier in a sale. I picked up Camille which is described as a neutral pink on the website, and Elodie which is a dusty mauve. The Petal Soft Lipstick Crayons are available in 20 shades, but I wanted some easy to wear pinks for everyday use.
These lip crayons cost £28.50 for 1.6g of product. I find this price point quite steep but they can often be found on sale. What piqued my interest in these as was the sheer formula. Many of the lipsticks I have in this format have quite a dramatic colour pay off. So it’s nice to have something a little more forgiving in my collection.

In both of these photos, Elodie is on the left and Camille is on the right. You can see from the product and the corresponding labels, Elodie is darker, with more mauve-y red tones. Camille is a lighter, almost peachier pink.

They’re basically chunky crayons that you can colour your lips in with. The twist up mechanism means that you can easy get more product when you need. It also twists down again to minimise waste. Although the lids don’t match the shade, there is a label on the bottom so you can differentiate between the colours.
These lipsticks are sheer and matte, although Elodie is a bit darker and so applies more opaque. They boast 12hr wear, and contain raspberry seed oil and mango butter for hydration.

Here is a swatch of Camille and Elodie side by side. You can see Camille is a bit lighter and peachier. Elodie has a bit more of a rosy tone which is more apparent on the lips.
Laura Mercier Petal Soft Lipstick Crayons – my thoughts
These lipstick crayons are sheer, and it can take a few applications to get decent colour payoff, especially with the Camille shade. Having said that, they never look or feel heavy on the lips. The formula itself is relatively comfortable, but I do recommend applying a lip balm before wearing these. As with any lip crayon that promises long wear, there is a tendency for it to become slightly drying, however much the brand says it won’t.
They give quite a blotted, soft focus pigment to the lips. You can easily apply these on the go as they don’t really require very much precision. They’re more akin to a lip tint than an intense lipstick in terms of effect, but they won’t highlight any dry patches on your lips. I found that although they’re advertised as matte, they do have a bit of “slip” to them, especially immediately after applying.

Here is the lipstick in Camille. It’s a really nice shade, very close to my natural lip colour but just a bit pinker and peachier. It’s definitely a great shade if you’re fair like me and just want something for everyday use.

Elodie is a bit darker, rosier and more opaque. The finish is the same though. I’d wear this during the day as well but it would also be nice for the evenings when I want something a bit more noticeable.
I find the 12 hr wear claim a bit ambitious but they do last a good amount of time and fade evenly. Although they’re not too drying, towards the end of wear I do want to reapply a lip balm!
All in all I really like the Laura Mercier Petal Soft Lipstick Crayons. I’d give them an 8/10, knocking off a few points for not quite hitting the 12 hr wear claim and the price. Do you wear these kinds of lipstick crayon products?
