Some scents just suit summer.
Not necessarily in a literal “tropical candle” way, but in how they feel in a space – lighter, fresher and a bit easier to live with day-to-day.
In a flatshare especially, where you can’t change much else, scent is one of the simplest ways to shift the mood of a room.
A candle that smells like citrus, sea air or something softly sun-warmed can make a space feel noticeably lighter, even on an ordinary evening at home.
They don’t recreate a holiday exactly, but they can bring in some of that same feeling – warm air, clean skin, a bit more ease – even if you’re just at home on a grey evening.
Coconut & Warm Skin
These are the ones that lean slightly creamy and sun-warmed, but still feel quite clean.
The White Company Seychelles Candle

This is probably one of the easiest “holiday” scents to like.
It has coconut, bergamot and jasmine, but it doesn’t come across as overly tropical or sweet. Instead, it feels soft, warm and slightly fresh at the same time.
This is the kind of candle that works well in the evening, when you want something comforting but still quite light.
& Other Stories Perle de Coco Candle

A slightly creamier take on coconut.
This feels more like warm skin and sun cream than anything sugary. It’s softer and a bit more understated, which makes it easy to live with day-to-day.
Citrus & Fresh Air
If you prefer something cleaner and more uplifting, citrus-based candles are usually the easiest option.
Neom Feel Refreshed Candle

A blend of lime, basil and mandarin that feels very fresh and bright.
This is less about creating atmosphere and more about lifting a room. It works well during the day, especially if you have windows open and want everything to feel a bit lighter.
Jo Loves Pomelo Candle

A softer, slightly more rounded citrus.
It still feels fresh, but there’s a warmth to it from the suede and spicy notes that makes it feel a bit more relaxed than sharper lemon-based scents.
Sea Salt & Coastal
These are the most understated of the group.
They tend to sit closer to the skin and feel more like clean air than a traditional “fragrance”.
Jo Malone Wood Sage & Sea Salt Candle

More mineral than sweet.
This has that slightly salty, airy quality that makes it feel like being by the coast rather than on a beach holiday. It’s suble enough that it doesn’t overwhelm a space.
Skandinavisk HAV Candle

Clean, calm and slightly aquatic.
This is a good option if you want something subtle. It doesn’t fill a room aggressively, but it creates a softer background scent that makes a space feel more considered.
Green & Mediterranean
A slightly different take on “summer”, but one that works just as well.
Diptyque Figuier Candle

This leans green rather than tropical.
It has that fig leaf, sun-warmed garden feel – more Mediterranean than beachy. It’s a nice option if you want something a bit more interesting but still easy to live with.
Final thoughts
Summer scents don’t have to mean overly sweet coconut or strong tropical blends.
I usually find the ones that work best at home are the ones that feel a bit lighter – citrus, soft coconut, sea salt or green notes that sit more naturally in a space.
Especially in a flatshare, where you’re sharing air and space with other people, it helps to have something that feels easy to live with.
These are the kinds of candles I come back to when I want a room to feel a bit fresher, calmer and more like summer.
