I love clean, effortless, and low-maintenance fragrances, especially in the warmer weather when I’m too hot and bothered to think about much. Even year-round, I tend to reach for perfumes that make me feel instantly put-together without shouting for attention the second I walk into a room.
Lately, I’ve been testing out a fragrance I’ve heard a lot of, and one that seems to be on a lot of people’s seasonal trays: Tacit by Aesop.
I’d ordered a small sample of this in the past, so I know I like it. Living with a full bottle of fragrance in real life is completely different though. If you love crisp, zesty scents but want something that has a bit of an edge, here is my honest take on it.
The Scent Profile
When you first spritz Tacit, you get a massive, incredibly refreshing rush of tart, bright yuzu citrus. It is invigorating and has a lovely, fizzy character to it.
Sometimes citrus fragrances can veer into the household cleaner territory. Tacit has immediate wave of aromatic herbs that cuts through the fruit which separates it from those cleaner associations. It has a distinctly green, peppery character thanks to a heavy dose of Basil Grand Vert.
Interestingly, as it opens up on the skin, it develops a really unique, savoury herbal edge. I couldn’t quite place it at first, but a quick look at the official notes confirmed exactly what my nose was picking up: there is actually fennel, rosemary, and mint buried in the heart. The fennel adds a slightly sweet, anise-like texture that plays beautifully with the basil, lifting the fragrance so it feels incredibly clean, and earthy.
The Longevity Reality Check

Let’s talk about the elephant in the room: the staying power.
If you are used to heavy “beast-mode” fragrances, Tacit might frustrate you. Because it is a citrus-and-herb driven profile, it can feel quite short-lived on bare skin. On me, that bright yuzu and basil opening settles down very quickly, moving into a soft, close-to-the-skin vetiver and cedarwood base within a couple of hours. It’s not a perfume that announces itself, it’s something people have to get close to you to notice.
But here is my favourite little hack for this perfume: if you spray it directly onto your clothes you’ll get some more wear out if it.
While the citrus facets fade from warm skin, the herbal fennel and woody vetiver elements absolutely love fabric fibres. If I apply it onto a jumper, a cotton t-shirt, or a coat I can easily still detect wafts of it the very next day. It might not walk into a room before you do, but it has a lovely, subtle resilience.
The Vibe
Tacit is the ultimate daytime, casual companion. It is completely unisex and has a crisp, understated elegance that works effortlessly whether you are wearing a structured blazer to the office or running errands in your gym gear. It doesn’t scream for attention, but it makes you smell beautifully clean, elevated, and polished.
If you love green, botanical scents that lean more crisp than sugary sweet, it is well worth stopping by an Aesop counter to give it a test.
Aesop’s Tacit retails for £150 for 50ml, you can pick up your bottle here.
