As we head into summer, I tend to reach for fragrances that feel lighter, fresher and a bit easier to wear day-to-day.
Heavier scents can feel a bit too much in warmer weather, whereas lighter compositions tend to sit better on the skin and feel more in keeping with the season.
I’ve tried to keep this quite varied – from fresh citrus and green scents to softer florals and slightly warmer options for the evening. There’s also a mix of price points here, from more niche fragrances to familiar designer options, so there should be something that fits what you’re looking for.
These are the fragrances I find myself coming back to each summer.
Fresh and citrus-led

These are the ones I tend to reach for the most in warmer weather. They feel clean, bright and very easy to wear.
Dolce & Gabbana Light Blue
This is one of those classic summer fragrances that still holds up.
It’s a bright, slightly sharp citrus that feels instantly refreshing. There’s a crispness to it that gives that “just showered” feel, which works particularly well on hot days.
This is the kind of fragrance I reach for when I want something simple, familiar and uplifting.
Diptyque Eau des Sens
This sits somewhere between citrus and floral, with a slightly green edge that keeps it feeling modern.
It’s bright without being too sharp, and softens nicely on the skin. It has that clean, slightly luminous quality that works well during the day.

Le Labo Bergamote 22
This is a more elevated take on citrus.
It still has that brightness, but with a soft, musky base that makes it feel a bit more rounded and less fleeting.
It’s one of those fragrances that feels very put together without trying too hard.

Guerlain Mandarin Basilic
This feels like a true summer citrus.
It’s juicy and slightly sweet, balanced with a soft herbal freshness from the basil. It’s bright, cheerful and very easy to wear in the heat.
Airy, clean and slightly different

These feel a bit more interesting, but still very wearable.
D.S. & Durga Debaser
This is a very distinctive kind of summer scent.
It centres around a green fig note, with a slightly creamy, almost coconut-like base. It feels warm, soft and a bit sun-warmed, rather than sharp or citrusy.
This is one I reach for when I want something a little different, but still very much suited to summer.
ELDO You or Someone Like You
This is one of the freshest fragrances I’ve tried, but in a slightly different way to citrus.
It has a clean, green feel with a noticeable mint note that makes it feel cool and almost crisp on the skin. There’s also a soft rose running through it, which keeps it balanced. It almost smells like a mojito, and is what I had hoped Renaissance by Xerjoff would smell like.
This works particularly well on really warm days when you want something genuinely refreshing. It’s also often available at a discount, which makes it a good entry point into niche fragrances.
Hermes Un Jardin Sur Le Lagune

This has a soft, slightly watery floral quality that feels very calm and understated.
It’s not overly bright or sweet – more gentle and atmospheric, like warm air near water. It reminds me of sitting by the sea, with that mix of fresh air, suncream and soft florals in the background.
This is also one of the more accessible options here, as it can often be found for less than you might expect. I picked up a 50ml bottle for around £40.
Liis Studied
This is a very light, skin-like fragrance.
It has a soft pear note with a clean, musky base that makes it feel almost like your skin, but fresher.
It sits quite close and feels very effortless – perfect if you prefer something subtle.

Soft florals for warmer weather

Florals can still work really well in summer, as long as they’re kept quite light.
Diptyque Ilio
This feels bright and slightly fruity, with a soft floral base.
There’s a breezy, almost sunlit quality to it that makes it feel very “summer holiday”.
Gucci Bloom
This is a fuller white floral, but still works in summer if you want something a bit more noticeable.
It feels soft and natural rather than heavy, and works particularly well in the evening.
You can read my review of Gucci Bloom here.
Warm, solar and slightly richer
For evenings, or when you want something with a bit more presence.
Estée Lauder Bronze Goddess
This is very much a summer classic.
It has that warm, slightly creamy, suncream-like feel that instantly evokes warm weather. There’s a softness to it that keeps it from feeling too heavy.
This is one I tend to reach for in the evening, or when I want something a bit more noticeable.

Final thoughts
Summer fragrances don’t need to be complicated to work well.
I usually find the best ones are those that feel easy to wear in the heat – whether that’s a bright citrus, a soft floral or something more skin-like.
You don’t necessarily need to spend a lot to find something that works either. It’s more about finding a fragrance that feels comfortable and natural to wear day-to-day.
These are the ones I tend to come back to each year – simple, wearable and suited to the season.
